You know you want to teach in a Kodály-inspired way but...

Introducing Doremi

Hi, I'm Helen!

Hi, I’m Helen Russell and I founded Doremi Connect three years ago to help teachers like you feel supported and confident integrating the Kodály approach into their teaching.

Many teachers are totally convinced by the benefits of the Kodály Approach. However, despite completing training and buying books, they still aren’t using it fully in their teaching.

I’m not surprised. It took me over a decade to fully integrate it into my piano and music teaching so that I was satisfied my students were getting all the benefits. A decade of studying with the best Kodály practitioners, innovating, trialling and refining my lesson plans with hundreds of students just like yours.

I created Doremi Connect so I can pass on all of that expertise to you, including all my sequenced, detailed lessons plans. You don’t have to struggle alone any more. Join my community and start feeling supported and empowered.

What's Inside the Membership?

Teach Piano with Kodály

The Teach Piano Roadmap starts with my introduction course Kodály Kickoff for Piano Teachers. You can then work through my 46 lessons across 8 modules for beginner piano students. Including downloadable plans, video walkthroughs, teacher guides and all the scores and resources.

Integrating the benefits of Kodály musicianship into your piano lessons. The lesson plans contain detailed, step-by-step instructions so you will know exactly what to do, and when, to lead your beginner students to success not only as pianists but as rounded musicians and solfa superstars.

Teach Music with Kodály

The Teach Music Roadmap guides you through 30 lessons (and growing) across 5 modules. Including downloadable plans, video walkthroughs, teacher guides and all the scores and resources. Ensuring your young musicians use their singing voices to get the benefits of Kodály music education. Perfect for extra curricular music groups or classroom teaching since the fully progressive Doremi curriculum exceeds the expectations of the National Curriculum.

Then perfectly complementing the detailed lesson plans, my Masterclasses take you on a deep dive through the teaching process of one element.

Improve Your Musicianship

The Musicianship Roadmap guides you through the sequenced video courses included inside Doremi. Each course is broken down into manageable video lessons and your progress is tracked so you can pick up where you left off. And because they’re recorded live, it’s like being in a real class!

Throughout the courses, Helen pops in teaching tips for those of you who are teaching older students.

Anne Ralph takes a deeper look into famous pieces of classical music with musicianship activities for all abilities. And practise your solfa fluency with Rebecca Willson’s multi-genre exercises.

One to One and Group Coaching

Helen’s Drop-In Days are a great way to get One to One support in a flexible format that doesn’t require you to be camera ready! Text and voice messages ping back and forth while you are cooking dinner, or helping kids with homework.

If you prefer a group vibe then we also have live Q&A Group Coaching Calls on Zoom. Times vary to accommodate different schedules and time-zones.

What do our members think?

Helen's lesson plans are amazing. I use them word for word. I don’t have the capacity to write them myself. And why would I, when someone who has far more experience and knowledge is writing them. And I'm learning by teaching those lesson plans, which is so valuable. I love being part of the supportive, non-judgemental community. It was a very lonely job, but now we all have each other.

Helen’s piano training is outstanding. My students no longer have “understanding gaps” left by some other materials. And looking at my old favourites through the Doremi microsteps lens has changed how I use them. It’s transformed my teaching and finally given me the confidence to charge what I’m worth. I wish I’d found you years ago!
Estelle Pringle, Piano Teacher
North Yorkshire, UK
This year my Kindergarten students have made amazing progress in building a solid understanding of beat and pitch. The lessons and sequence of the preparation, presentation and practice are well laid out for teachers to use and students to learn. Doremi Connect has been a wonderful addition to my tool box, and the students love it. Well done, Helen!
Nancy Martin, Music Teacher
California, USA
It’s really good to have the lessons planned for me. The walkthrough videos are really helpful, Helen talks me through the whole thing. And I know if I’m struggling I can just ask in the forum or on a coaching call. Knowing there are other teachers doing the same thing makes me feel supported and gives me more confidence.

Here's how it works

Step 1: Choose your roadmap

Join the membership and choose the roadmap that’s right for you.

  • Teach Piano Roadmap for piano teachers
  • Teach Music Roadmap for group or class music teachers
  • Musicianship Roadmap for developing your own musicianship skills
  • Or all three!! You can pick and choose what you use and when

Each Roadmap guides you through your chosen path with carefully designed, sequential courses and downloadable resources. Starting with a course for total beginners if that’s what you are looking for.

Your personal progress is saved, so you can pop in and out, review previous steps or even work through multiple roadmaps at the same time.

You can do as little or as much as you like, and work through as quickly or slowly as you need. All from the comfort of your own home!

Step 2: Connect with Helen

When you join I will introduce myself and make sure you’ve found everything that you need. Maybe there will be a live coaching session, masterclass or musicianship workshop coming up that you can join in with. I’ll make sure you know where to go.

Step 3: Connect with the community

Browse through the posts on our member forum to find questions or discussions interest you. When you see how friendly and helpful everyone is you will feel inspired to join in.

If you’re a Facebook fan then we have a members-only social group there too.

Step 4: Browse the live schedule

We have a calendar of live events for you to choose from. Coaching, teaching masterclasses, musicianship workshops all at different times to suit different schedules or time-zones.

The masterclasses and workshops are recorded and saved in the Member Dashboard so you can watch whenever you like.

Step 5: Browse the library

We also have guest interviews, money and business courses and technical tutorials for you to dip into. Think of it as an online magazine!

You can mark each one as completed as you watch them, so you can keep track of what you’ve seen. But of course as with everything inside Doremi, you can rewatch as many times as you like.

Doremi Piano is perfect, it's what I’ve always been looking for. I've tried so many different methods before but now I'm all Doremi. I am absolutely transformed and it has changed how I approach everything. Everyone's very welcoming and kind, and Helen's always there with her great ideas and support. It's a great investment in yourself and I’m learning all the time.

I always struggled with layering the PPP approach over the long term. It was quite overwhelming at times. But Helen's resources are all so clear, calm and so well structured that when I teach with them, I know I am teaching well thought out lessons, rooted in a deep musical pedagogy. Helen's videos and lesson plans make everything so easy, and take the stress out of it all.

I love the opportunity to learn and practice by singing along to the musicianship videos. And I have gained so much confidence and understanding of music theory. It gives me more confidence in front of my choirs and classes.

Helen has created such a lovely, friendly, supportive community where people can share their worries and speak their mind whilst receiving helpful replies and being treated as a friend. It’s not always easy to find lovely places on the internet. It’s really special.
Rebecca Willson, Instrumental and Musicianship Teacher

Connecting with the Doremi community has been a delight. Helen is full of knowledge and experience. She really teaches what she preaches and continues to be reflective and outward looking. She is so, so kind, yet always adheres to the robust principles of Kodály based learning.

Frequently Asked Questions

No problem. Inside the membership we have our Solfa from Scratch course that gently takes you through the basics of Kodály musicianship for complete beginners.

Then the Musicianship Roadmap continues your journey.

Plus we have Kodály Kickoff for Piano Teachers, a from-scratch introduction to using the Kodály Approach in piano lessons.

Not at all.

As long as you’re willing to give it a try, the songs and games we use with our beginner students are perfect for you too. You can develop your skills and confidence alongside your students.

Nope, and you’re not alone. Lots of teachers are worried about their own reading skills.

Whilst all the songs we use do have a downloadable score for those that can read music. I’ve also created video walkthroughs and demonstrate all the songs for you so you can learn them by ear. Plus, as you take your students through the curriculum, you’ll find your own reading skills will develop too.

We have many members who aren’t teachers and they just enjoy following our Musicianship Roadmap and attending our live musicianship workshops to develop their own skills. Some just love Kodály and enjoy being part of a community of like-minded musicians.

The courses, resources and live sessions are there for you to pick and choose. So you’re very welcome to join us, whatever your background.

We have members from all across the USA, Europe and even Australia. So I vary the days and times of the live sessions so that our international members can still join in live.

If you’re busy when our coaching sessions are on, you can ask a question in advance and I’ll answer it when I’m free. Or you can post a question on our member forum!

You’ll set a username and password that gives you access to our member content.

Then you can access the walkthroughs, teaching masterclasses and musicianship workshop videos.

All the lesson plans and resources are downloadable pdfs so you can print them or view them on any device, even when offline.

Each lesson that involves a page from one of the Doremi Piano books will have that page available as a downloadable pdf to use with your students. So you don’t need to buy anything extra.

However if you want a beautifully presented hard copy, or a studio-licensed download of an entire book, then pop to Doremi Piano Books for more information.

The Doremi Teach curriculums are exclusively inside the membership. That way we can support you to be the successful Kodály teacher you’ve always dreamed of.

Only the bonus introduction courses are available separately, but accessing them as a member is better value, giving you all the support from me, and the community, and so much more.

You get access to everything already inside the membership straight away! No waiting for content to be released to you, just jump in. We regularly update and add new material too – so your content library will continue growing.

Simple! You get access to everything that our members get for 7 days.

I’ll be in touch throughout your 7 days to make sure you are making the most of your week. And I’ll send you email warnings to remind you that your trial is coming to an end.

If you want to continue with your membership then you don’t need to do anything. After 7 days your first monthly payment will be taken and your membership will continue without a break.

If you don’t want to continue then just pop into your account before the end of the 7 day period and cancel your membership. If you cancel you’ll still keep your access for the full 7 days.

If you miss the deadline and get charged – don’t worry. I’m not trying to trick you. I still have my 14 day money back guarantee. So just email me within 14 days of starting your trial and I’ll sort out a refund for you.

Yes! You can save over 15% with our annual rate. Just join as a monthly member and upgrade at any time by clicking the link at the bottom of our member emails.

We know you will LOVE being a Doremi member, however, if for whatever reason you’re not 100% satisfied in any way we have a 14 day money back guarantee (no questions asked). Before you do though, make sure you’ve thrown yourself into the opportunities, especially the live sessions and the community support because that’s where we add the magic.

After 14 days you can just cancel at anytime with two clicks of your mouse.

Obviously we’d love it if all of our members stuck around forever – but we know that that’s never going to happen! So, if you do decide to cancel obviously we’ll be very sad, but you’ll be able to do so with just a few clicks from within your account page.

Once cancelled you’ll retain access to the site for any remaining time paid for, after which you’ll lose access to all of the content, community and live sessions.

Get in touch here or hit reply on any of my emails and I’ll be glad to help.
